NUMBERS OF LIVE BABIES AFTER FAILED ABORTIONS UP

VANCOUVER, Feb 16 (LSN) British Columbia pro-life activist Ted Gerk reported a gruesome discovery last week which, not surprisingly, was ignored by the secular media. Researching BC vital statistics Gerk found increasing numbers of babies born alive after botched abortions who lived long enough to be issued birth and death certificates.

According to the records at the B.C. Vital Statistics Agency, one case was reported in 1993; one in 1994; two in 1995; six in 1996; and six in 1997. Alberta Report magazine reported the story and indicated that similar statistics are unavailable in Alberta. Pro-lifers in Alberta have hinted that the reason for the absence of data is that an all-pro-abortion “advisory board” that includes Susan Fox, director of the Morgentaler clinic in Edmonton, oversees the reporting of abortion statistics in the province.

Alberta Report investigative journalist Celeste McGovern notes that one case of a botched abortion made press last summer when Vancouver General Hospital paid out a multi-million dollar settlement in the case of Ximena Renaerts. According to court records, Ximena, now 13 and suffering from quadriplegia, was placed in a closet normally reserved for dead aborted babies even though she was obviously alive at birth. She was left nearly 40 minutes before receiving care.

In an interview with LifeSite, John Hof, president of BC Campaign Life Coalition, said the vital statistics info and Ximena’s case are only the tip of the iceberg. “Since they want abortion to be a nice clean procedure,” says Hof, ” stories of survivors and women who die from abortions must be covered up.”
