DETROIT, September 25, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A demand from the United Auto Workers union that car manufacturers insure their employees’ abortions and contraceptives, has been rejected after an uprising by pro-life members. After finding out about the measure, many members were outraged that they had not been consulted before the controversial proposal was made. The circulation of a pro-life petition and numerous phone calls to UAW headquarters put an end to the proposal. Local news reports that UAW President Ron Gettelfinger was furious that union and company sources had leaked the contentious proposal to the news media.
