OTTAWA, Jan 27 (LSN) Reacting to the outrage expressed by Canadians across the country including at least 70 Liberal Members of Parliament, the federal government announced yesterday that it would intervene in the appeal of the recent BC Supreme Court decision which struck down the law against possession of child pornography. In his ruling BC Supreme Court Judge Duncan Shaw claimed that there was a lack of evidence linking possession of child porn with an increased risk to child welfare. Hence laws against possession are an undue restriction on Charter guarantees of free speech.
