Canada’s Unelected, Unaccountable Ruler Speaks   OTTAWA, July 12 (LSN) - In near-perfect double-speak, Canada’s Chief Supreme Court Justice Antonio Lamer explained the rampant judicial activism that characterizes his court.  Responding to concerns that the Supreme Court of Canada has taken to ruling the country,  Lamer said “thank god we’re here.”  In an interview featured in today’s National Post Lamer disdains the claim that the court is activist but then argues that they have had to make laws because parliament has refused to exercise its responsibility in this jurisdiction. “It’s not for me to criticize legislators but if they choose not to legislate, if they prefer to leave it up to the court that’s their choice,” said Lamer. “But a problem is not going to go away because legislators aren’t dealing with it. We’re doing our job.”  In perhaps his most telling statement, Lamer said: “When I read, when I hear, that the courts have become activist, well it hasn’t become activist under my stewardship, it has always been activist.”  For more see the National Post at:  http://www.nationalpost.com/home.asp?f=990712/26543
