CALGARY, Nov 17 (LSN.ca) - Progressive Conservative Party Leader Joe Clark is making abortion a centrepiece of his campaign. For the second time in a week Clark is quoted in the press as touting himself as the hero of women for being pro-abortion. In Toronto at a gathering of 200 women, Clark was introduced by his pro-abortion activist wife Maureen McTeer. Clark was quoted by the Canadian Press as saying, “This election is important for many reasons: . . . it will determine whether we keep our right to choose our reproductive options or whether contraception and abortion will be re-criminalized.”

Last Sunday, Clark made comments implying that only men are concerned with the right to life of the unborn and that he would not even tolerate a referendum on the issue. The Toronto Star reported that after saying that he unequivocally supports a “woman’s right to choose”, he said, “It is simply unacceptable that there should be a suggestion that . . . 500,000 men in the country could force a referendum on a woman’s right to choose.”
