STOCKHOLM, December 11, 2001 (LSN.ca) - A male friend of a lesbian couple who donated sperm so that the couple could have three children has been ordered to pay child support by the courts. A county court in Sweden ruled the man must pay child support of $265 per month after the lesbian couple separated.
Reuters reports that the verdict poses a legal dilemma because under Swedish law a sperm donor is not regarded as a legal parent of his biological children. Normally donors are strictly anonymous. The man has appealed the decision.
