NEW YORK, September 14, 2001 (LSN.ca) - Following in the ancient tradition of God’s people, Christian leaders in America have recognized the need for God’s protection following the horrendous terrorist attacks Tuesday, and are calling for a “spiritual revival”. On his ‘The 700 Club’ program Thursday, Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition, discussed the attacks with Rev. Jerry Falwell.

On the show, Robertson listed the insults to God committed in America such as abortion, pornography, and barring God from schools and public spheres and commented that “God Almighty has lifted His hand of protection from us.” Falwell agreed with Robertson’s assessment adding that he feared the attacks Tuesday, “as terrible as it is, could be miniscule - if, in fact - God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.”

Falwell, a Baptist minister who is chancellor of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., was explicit in identifying groups and actions he believes resulted in God’s removing his protection from the nation. “The ACLU’s got to take a lot of blame for this. And, I know that I’ll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way - all of them who have tried to secularize America - I point the finger in their face and say ‘you helped this happen.’”

The program ended praying earnestly for the families of the victims, and begging for a turning of America “to the Lord God.”
