TORONTO, November 5, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The popular fast food chain McDonalds has been providing millions of dollars in funding to UNICEF, the disgraced United Nations agency whose original intent of helping the world's children has been obscured with involvement in population control. The issue was raised by radical anti-life Toronto Star columnist Michelle Landsberg who was concerned that UNICEF, one of her favourite charities (she claims to be an "ardent supporter"), was "dancing with a fast-food devil." The Star is by far Canada's largest circulation daily.
Lansberg, pointed out that last summer, McDonald's and UNICEF announced a Happy Deal "partnership" in which the fast food giant distributed 20 million Trick or Treat boxes through its U.S. outlets. This year proceeds from a star studded World Children's Day concert will support UNICEF, among other children's charities. Landsberg suggests that McDonald's is attempting to acquire a positive image by supporting UNICEF. Landsberg's campaign against McDonald's interestingly coincides with the pro-life goal of seeing that donations go to true children's charities rather than abortion and contraceptives-promoting organizations such as UNICEF.
