WASHINGTON, November 18, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com)- Leading cloning researcher Jose Cibelli is abandoning his five-year quest to clone human embryos. Instead, he has opted for the path of less resistance and agreed to set up a $1 million animal biotechnology lab at Michigan State University.
Cibelli is being described as a victim of the challenges many companies are facing in attracting investors in embryonic human-based stem cell research and cloning, while the Bush Administration has set limits on such research. According to media reports, generally favourable to any and all research that could be considered immoral, "All of this has investors shunning stem cell companies like the plague." Advanced Cell Technologies, Cibelli's former employer, was one company forced to cut funding of his human experiments.
