WASHINGTON, October 17, 2002 (LSN.ca) - Pro-abortion groups are targeting a Christian pro-life doctor for political assassination. Dr. W. David Hager, an obstetrician and gynecologist from Lexington, Ky., was chosen by the Bush Administration to sit on a Food and Drug Administration panel. Hager has written 41 journal publications, 14 book chapters and six books, and has served on the faculty at Emory University School of Medicine and the University of Kentucky School of Medicine. He was named one of the “Best Doctors for Women” by Good Housekeeping magazine in 1997. The targeting of Hager is the latest example of Democratic Party-aligned groups engaging in “religious profiling” to exclude qualified candidates from positions. Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women, denounced Hager as “an opponent of women’s reproductive rights who prescribes prayer and Scripture to treat women’s health conditions.” According to Gandy, the doctor “has no place chairing a panel that has enormous power to influence women’s health policy.” NOW, Planned Parenthood and others have joined the crusade against Dr. Hager. “We believe he’s going to make a move to limit the kind of contraception that women ought to have,” said Senator Barbara Boxer, a California Democrat and a fierce proponent of abortion and other anti-life policies.
