TORONTO, September 23, 2002 (LSN.ca) - Terence J. Fay, a professor at St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto, has written a new book in which he denounces the pro-life movement as a centre for Catholic “dissenters”.  A book review of Fay’s offering “A History of Canadian Catholicism” by Interim editor Paul Tuns reveals an author with great animosity towards the pro-life movement.  In a section entitled, “Dissent to the Right and to the Left,” Fay begins, “Catholic dissenters from the right are centered in Opus Dei, Comunione e Liberazione, Focolare and the pro-life movement.”

Fay takes direct aim at “the well-organized and confrontational Campaign Life Coalition,” which he claims is more interested in lobbying than “sympathetic support for pregnant women.” Published by McGill University Press, the 400-page book fails to mention anywhere that Fay is a Jesuit priest.  In his review Tuns also points out that Fay has made serious errors of fact as well as his countless errors of interpretation.  Tuns concludes his review saying, “There are many books that examine Catholicism, and even a few that look at Catholicism’s role in Canadian history. But those interested in either of these issues are advised to eschew Fay’s A History of Catholicism in Canada for ignorance is better than miseducation.”  Read the full review in the Interim at:  http://lifesite.net/interim/2002/sept/21flawed.html   Express your concerns:  Reverend A.
