CLEARWATER, October 20, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, has called a special session of the Florida Legislature for Monday, October 20, 2003. Florida’s Speaker of the House will introduce “Terri’s Bill”. By Florida law, two thirds majority vote are required to have a topic entered.  The Bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths currently pending in Florida.  Volunteers with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation have learned that Senate President, Jim King is against this bill. On Friday two state courts rejected pleas to have Terri’s feeding tube reinserted.  Terri’s parents, devout Catholics, maintain hope nonetheless. They are joined in their round-the-clock vigil outside the hospice where their daughter is starving to death by many pro-lifers and Christian groups of all denominations have joined in prayer and are lending a hand in the effort to sustain the constant vigil.  Meanwhile in Washington, disability rights group “Not Dead Yet” is organizing a protest in front of the White House.  Janet Folger, one of the people who attended the vigil outside the hospice writes, “This is viewed as such a watershed event that it has been discussed as the ‘Roe v. Wade of the Disabled.’” She recalled that “Disabled people, some exposing their plastic feeding tubes, held signs such as ‘Am I next?’ and ‘Being Disabled is Not a Crime.’ Lastly she notes that the Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities (a heavy-hitter, non-conservative organization) is filing a brief in U.S. District Court for a Temporary Restraining Order.”  Folger warns Governor Bush and his brother the President, “the Bush legacy cannot survive a dead disabled woman” they could have saved.  The family has asked for urgent prayer and for all concerned Floridians to contact their Senators and State House members to vote for Terri’s bill.  To contact Florida legislators:  http://www.terrisfight.org/legislators.html
