OTTAWA, September 17, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a shocking development, the Canadian House of Commons passed Bill C-250 which adds ‘sexual orientation’ to Canada’s hate crimes law. The vote was 143 to 110.  The bill has been the subject of intense lobbying by pro-family and church groups who fear that the bill will lead to serious erosion of freedom of religion and expression in Canada.

C-250 was introduced as a private members bill by openly gay New Democratic Party MP Svend Robinson who has been a militant abortion, euthanasia and homosexuality activist.

C-250 must still be passed through the Senate where opponents might possibly have another opportunity to stop the draconian change in legislation.  LifeSite will report much more on this development in Thursday’s news.  See related news items today and previous LifeSite reports:  Catholic League Shows Robinson’s Hate Crime Legislation Destined to Attack Faith http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2003/sep/03091602.html Stop Canadian Homosexual Hate Crimes Bill C-250 - Call MPs Sept 16 http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2003/sep/03091501.html
