WASHINGTON, February 4, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Pro-family leaders from around the United States met in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to discuss the importance of marriage and the proposed federal amendment to protect it.
The Free Market Foundation, one of the groups at the meeting, reported that the leaders were informed that President Bush has now agreed to join in the effort to protect marriage by way of a federal amendment to the Constitution. He will make a formal statement of his position to support the amendment in the near future. Free Market Foundation President Kelly Shackelford expressed that this was great news for the country. “This is an exciting time as our President is taking a leadership position to protect marriage. The battle for marriage has now begun,” said Shackelford.
