CLEARWATER, Florida, February 9, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In an editorial titled Lawmakers Intrude Into Family Privacy published Friday, George Felos, attorney for Michael Schiavo, criticizes the Florida government for being “politically motivated” to fight on Terri Schindler-Schiavo’s behalf. Michael Schiavo is the husband of Terri Schindler-Schiavo who has been battling to have his wife’s feeding tube removed in order that she be starved to death.
In the Felos editorial, which appeared in the Lakeland Ledger of Lakeland, Florida, he writes that “Because of the notoriety of the Schiavo case, which is one isolated case out of tens of thousands over the years, I think the Legislature is politically motivated to look like they are doing something.” The editorial has incensed the Schindler family. In response, a statement released by Bobby Schindler, Terri’s brother said that “People should be very frightened of how matter-of-factly Mr. Felos’s assertion is. He openly admits that we are once again killing those deemed less worthy.” Felos, a self-styled champion of the ‘right to die’ movement, is the author of a book called Litigation as Spiritual Practice, in which he claims that he “soul speaks” to incapacitated patients.
