STRASBOURG, Apr 5 (LSN.ca) - A resolution passed Monday by the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe called for the “right” to abortion for women raped in war. Alarmingly the resolution used the UN wording of “forced pregnancy” to call for the approval of such abortions. According to an Agence France Presse report the 41-nation Council said that “although rape had been recognized as a war crime, it continued to be used systematically as a weapon of war” causing “forced pregnancy.” The Council encouraged all its members to adopt the Rome treaty, which would lead to the establishment of the International Criminal Court.
