OTTAWA, December 22, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Prime Minister Paul Martin, a self-styled “very strong Roman Catholic”, said in an interview with Don Martin of The Calgary Herald that he would attend a homosexual ‘marriage’ ceremony. Asked if he would attend a same-sex wedding if invited, the Prime Minister responded, “oh sure I’d go, absolutely. Yes, I would go if I was invited.”
Martin has campaigned on the homosexual ‘marriage’ issue, berating his primary opponent - Conservative Leader Stephen Harper - for his party’s willingness to allow a free vote in parliament on the issue. (see coverage: http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/dec/05121908.html )
Herald reporter Don Martin, says that the Prime Minister is the best there is at evasive answers.“You ask direct questions. Paul Martin responds with earnest evasiveness. After 27 years in the business, this prime minister is simply the best I’ve ever interviewed at emphatically saying nothing beyond his committee-approved script,” writes Don Martin.
However, at the close of the interview the reporter managed to squeeze out of Martin the quotes on homosexual ‘marriage’, ending his article with: “Great. Will a gay or lesbian couple please send this man an invitation? Paul Martin at a same-sex marriage ceremony. Now that would be big news.”
The news comes on the heels of the tribute former US President Bill Clinton paid to Elton John for the singer’s homosexual ‘wedding’. Clinton sent a one-minute video congratulating John on his ‘wedding’ which was played at the musician’s lavish pre-wedding bash.
