SALEM, Oregon, Aug 2 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A proposal to ban the promotion of homosexuality in schools in Oregon received enough valid voter signatures to be put to a referendum in November, the state Elections Division said Monday. Catholic World News reports that the proposed measure, sponsored by the Oregon Citizens Alliance, states “the instruction of behavior relating to homosexuality and bisexuality shall not be presented in a public school in a manner which encourages, promotes, or sanctions such behaviors.”
The Oregon Citizens Alliance and the main opposition group, Basic Rights Oregon, have each pledged to raise up to $1 million to lobby for their side of the question. A Basic Rights spokesman complained the measure would make it tougher to teach sex education in school.
