In a revealing column, Paul Jackson of the Calgary Sun reveals the possible reason for Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau’s reported resentment towards the U.S. In 1953, when Washington was still fighting communist expansion, Trudeau, who had associated with communists, was barred from entering the U.S. as an undesirable person. But new evidence from released cabinet documents show many of Trudeau’s boasts of being close to communist leaders may have been false.

Catholic News Service reports that the papal representative to Uganda has asked youths to ignore people who urge them to use condoms as a supposed solution to AIDS. Archbishop Christoph Pierre, apostolic nuncio to Uganda, made the appeal just two weeks after Ugandan Vice President Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe criticized religious leaders who oppose the use of condoms. Archbishop Pierre, celebrating Mass for Uganda Martyrs High School day July 29, said condoms are not a solution to AIDS.
