FRONT ROYAL, VA, Aug 3 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Father Matthew Habiger, OSB, Chairman of the Human Life International Board of Directors, today announced that the Board has accepted the resignation of Father Richard Welch, CSSR, as President of HLI. Fr. Habiger described Fr. Welch’s move as “a courageous personal decision.” The decision is effective immediately and Fr. Habiger will assume the Presidency to serve the remainder of Fr. Welch’s term which expires in December. Fr. Welch will continue to serve on the HLI Board of Directors and will work with staff in the media field.
Given the internal turmoil HLI has been undergoing the move is being seen as a measure to restore unity to the pro-life community. In making the announcement today, Fr. Habiger called on the worldwide pro-life community to come together as a unified movement to advance the Culture of Life amidst a world ensnared in the stranglehold of the Culture of Death.
