WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept 1 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The American Family Association has condemned the Clinton-Gore administration for preparing a “witch hunt” against the Boy Scouts, and is demanding a full-scale investigation into the “persecution.”

The US Departments of the Interior and Justice have begun investigating whether the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) are violating President Bill Clinton’s Executive Order banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, reported the Washington Times yesterday. The investigation could lead to the end of BSA programs conducted on federal lands or with the aid of federal agencies. Clinton’s June 23 Executive Order Number 13160 banning discrimination against homosexuals came just five days before the US Supreme Court ruled the Boy Scouts had a constitutional right to bar open homosexuals from membership and leadership roles.

Pro-family reaction was swift against the President’s hostile move against the much-loved organization. “This appears to be a precursor to a full-throated attack on the Scouts by the Clinton administration. ... We’re looking for Congress to rein in this mean-spirited foray against America’s premier youth organization,” said Robert H. Knight, senior director of cultural studies for the Family Research Council. Representative JC Watts (R-OK) called it an “insult to families.”

George Bush also stepped into the fray, but more discreetly. “I hope that President Clinton and Vice President Gore respect the role the Boy Scouts play in our society and will not allow them to be shut out of federal lands,” he said.” American Renewal called the investigation “deeply disturbing”. “We do not live in a monarchy,” said Richard Lessner of American Renewal. “Bill Clinton’s decrees do not overrule the Constitution.” The Clinton agenda appears to have far more concern for the imposition of gay ideology than the welfare of the many thousands of youths who will be hurt by this action.
