WASHINGTON, D.C., June 8, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Susan B. Anthony List is joining the U.S. House of Representatives' Pro-Life Women's Caucus tomorrow to ask Congress to ensure that taxpayers in the nation's capital are not forced to fund abortion-on-demand.
The pro-life groups have announced plans to host a press conference June 9 at 11:30 a.m. to urge preservation of the Dornan Amendment, which has maintained restrictions on taxpayer funding for abortion in the District of Columbia for several years.
Those present at the conference will include: Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser; House Pro-Life Women's Caucus chairwoman Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH); Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC); Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN); Rep. Mary Fallin (R-OK); and Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC). The conference will take place on the Southeast Plaza of the Capitol Complex.
In budget recommendations issued last month, President Obama urged Congress to repeal the Dornan amendment, therefore allowing taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand. However, pro-life leaders fear that repealing the amendment would lead to the deaths of hundreds more unborn children per year.
"The abortion industry's own studies suggest that many thousands of residents of the nation's capital are alive today because of the abortion funding ban that President Obama now proposes to repeal," said the National Right to Life Committee's legislative director Douglas Johnson.
