Another Undercover Video Shows Kentucky Abortuary Failing to Report Child Sex Abuse

By Peter J. Smith

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky, April 21, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Undercover pro-life journalists have released another hard-hitting exposé showing an abortion facility not only hiding child sexual abuse, but offering to circumvent parental consent laws in order to keep a minor’s abortion secret from her parents.

The student-led pro-life group Live Action released footage Wednesday showing an employee at Kentucky’s only abortion provider, EMW Women’s Surgical Center, an affiliate of the National Abortion Federation, freely volunteering to violate Kentucky law, which requires those with evidence of suspected child abuse to inform law enforcement.

Kentucky defines sex between an adult 21 years of age and older and a minor less than 16 years old as rape in the third degree. The charge is a Class D felony, which carries a one to five year prison sentence.

Live Action President Lila Rose and actor Jackie Stollar went undercover on June 23, 2008, posing as teenage minors, to the Kentucky abortion center. Rose told staff that she was 14 years old, and had been made pregnant by her 31-year-old “boyfriend.”

In the video, an EMW counselor by the name of “Wendy” determines that Rose is “14 to 15-weeks pregnant” and that the fee for the abortion would be $1075 dollars.

The counselor also gave misleading information on fetal development, saying that at that stage “there is not any brain activity. You don’t get brain activity until like, 18-19 weeks.” The counselor also said that although the unborn child was “developing,” “it doesn’t function.”

According to the Endowment for Human Development, however, research shows that primitive brainwaves in unborn infants have been recorded as early as 6 weeks and 2 days after conception.

The counselor also failed to ask the questions necessary to file a child sexual abuse report, and did not communicate to Rose about the illegal or dangerous nature of her sexual relationship. Instead she volunteered how Rose could keep the relationship a secret by obtaining a judicial by-pass, so she would not have to expose the dangerous relationship to her parents.

In the video, “Wendy” tells Rose that “we have minors in here all the time” and that the lawyer “doesn’t think it’s gonna be a big deal getting you a judicial bypass.”

Rose, a student at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), said that this sort of disregard for the law is typical at abortion centers. Live Action has had similar experiences at Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in Bloomington, IN, Indianapolis, IN, Memphis, TN, Birmingham, AL, Los Angeles, CA, Tucson, AZ, Phoenix, AZ, and Milwaukee, WI.

The video-footage by Live Action further corroborates the findings of other pro-life investigations which have revealed that most abortion clinics willingly participate in covering up sexual abuse by performing abortions and failing to report the crime.

A nationwide undercover investigation into abortion clinics’ cover-up of statutory rape conducted by Life Dynamics Incorporated of Denton, Texas, over a two year period, revealed that ninety-one percent of abortion facilities agreed to hide the age of the minor victim. The group recorded over 800 calls to abortion clinics in which female callers posed as a 13-year-old girl pregnant by an adult and trying to hide the relationship.

“In abortion clinics across the country, our undercover videos document the widespread cover up of sexual abuse,” said Rose. “Abortion clinics like EMW in Louisville center attempt to fast track underage abortions on vulnerable girls, shut out parents, and blatantly ignore their legal obligation to report the sex predator to police.”

Rose urges officials in Kentucky to follow the lead of the Alabama Health Department, which placed the Birmingham clinic on probation after conducting its own investigation after finding nine legal violations.

“State authorities need to investigate this Louisville abortion clinic and hold them accountable to the law,” Rose insisted. “Until they do, young girls will be put at risk of continued sexual abuse.”

In recent years, victims of child sexual abuse have come forward to testify against abortionists, who failed to report their rape and allowed the abuse to continue.

One incest victim in Ohio filed a lawsuit in 2007 against Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio, saying that in 2004 she had an abortion at the age of 16. She said she told staff that she had been raped by her own father and that the sexual assaults had been occurring since 2000, when she was 12 years old. Because Planned Parenthood did not report the crime, she alleged that the sexual assaults continued for 18 more months.
