WASHINGTON, D.C., March 29, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – President Obama appointed lesbian activist Chai Feldblum over the weekend to the five-member board of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the government office responsible for handling workplace discrimination complaints.

Obama bypassed the need for a Senate vote, where the appointment had garnered bipartisan opposition, by appointing Feldblum while the chamber was on recess Saturday. The Senate had stalled Feldblum’s appointment, along with that of 14 other nominees, according to the New York Times.

Feldblum, a Georgetown law professor who has worked for the American Civil Liberties Union and the radically pro-homosexual Human Rights Campaign, is known for her outspoken preference for pro-homosexual values over religious values.

In a 2006 column for the Weekly Standard, Maggie Gallagher of the National Organization for Marriage said Feldblum refers to herself as “part of an inner group of public-intellectual movement leaders committed to advancing LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual] equality in this country.”

“Sexual liberty should win in most cases,” Feldblum once wrote in 2006, according to a Christian Broadcasting Network report. “There can be a conflict between religious liberty and sexual liberty, but in almost all cases the sexual liberty should win because that’s the only way that the dignity of gay people can be affirmed in any realistic manner. I’m having a hard time coming up with any case in which religious liberty should win.”

Feldblum also participated in the drafting of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would give special protection to homosexuals in employment practices, regardless of an employer’s religious objection. Should ENDA pass into law, the EEOC would be responsible for issuing the regulations enforcing it.

“There seems to be little doubt, even in Ms. Feldblum’s mind, about how she will rule in cases involving religious liberty that come before her,” noted the Family Research Council this week.

Feldblum’s liberal credentials are additionally bolstered by her stint as court clerk for Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun, the liberal activist judge who authored the Roe v. Wade decision.

Mario Diaz of Concerned Women for America has said that Feldblum “represents one of the most serious threats to religious freedom we have seen in a long time.”

“Feldblum’s reputation among the liberal elites and her extremely radical views are a lethal combination,” wrote Diaz in December.
