BY LifeSiteNews.com VANCOUVER, Apr 27 (LSN) - While the federal government and police argue in BCappeals court for the overturning of a ruling which legalized the possession of child porn, one of the three judges in the case is defending the decision. B.C. Supreme Court Justice Mary Southin responded to police and crown arguments, saying: “There are graphic books written about rape and all sorts of things, but we don’t ban them.”  Southin questioned the definition of “children” implying that the accepted age of consent for sex—14 years old—might be too old. Southin expressed doubt that the children in the porn photos were exploited since they presumably posed for profit. “Whether we like it or not, isn’t it a fair assumption that they did it for money?” she asked.  Noting that some of the children in the pornographic photos were from Brazil she asked “What are we doing pontificating about street kids in Brazil?”“We don’t have international obligations to stop kids starving to death in the streets of Brazil, do we?” she continued.  Comparing child pornography to alcohol Southin said, “These sound like all the arguments around in the United States for prohibition . . . It made it worse.”  Meanwhile, at a joint news conference today, Canada Family Action Coalition National Affairs Director Peter Stock, Official Opposition Children and Families critic Eric Lowther, MP and Liberal MP Tom Wappel presented a 100,000+ signature petition calling for the maintenance and enforcement of Canada’s child pornography laws.
