We believe values are important,” President Bush said Monday, speaking to a crowd of 5,000 in Georgia. “And we believe marriage is a fundamental institution of civilization.”In a controversial ruling October 25, the New Jersey Supreme Court ordered the state Legislature to grant same-sex couples all of the legal rights of marriage, either through legislative changes or by the creation of civil unions, withholding only the official title of “marriage.”“For decades, activist judges have tried to redefine America by court order,” President Bush stated. “Just this last week in New Jersey, another activist court issued a ruling that raises doubt about the institution of marriage.
