The Toronto Sun reports today that the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies (CAEFS) - given a $451,807 federal subsidy last year - even wished Homolka “every success” in her Federal Court bid to overturn a warden’s denial of escorted passes for her to a halfway house operated by the feminist group. In a November 3, 1999 memo leaked to the Sun, CAEFS executive director Kim Pate wrote to the group’s members regarding Homolka’s move to a halfway house saying, “Please remember that this is something we, the CAEFS’ membership, fully support.” The lawyer for the families of Homolka’s victims was outraged at the news.
