BY LifeSiteNews.com By Gudrun SchultzJERUSALEM, Israel, April 6, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Israel’s Supreme Court will hear an appeal by a group of homosexual couples who want their Canadian “marriages” recognized by their home country, the court announced Wednesday.Five same-sex Israeli couples were “married” in Canada, and now are hoping to get legal recognition in the Jewish state. The Israeli government has said the country’s laws don’t recognize same-sex unions, regardless of where they have been performed.In Israel, Orthodox rabbis, who are opposed to same-sex marriages, perform Jewish wedding ceremonies. Gaining government recognition of marriages performed out of country would allow homosexual Jewish couples to bypass that obstacle.Israel’s family court ruled in February that a lesbian couple could be legally regarded as the parents of three children, born using IVF technology.
