BY LifeSiteNews.com LIMA, August 2, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A leading Catholic author, in a recent visit to Peru, met with the former prime minister and three representatives of the Peruvian Congress, who revealed that the “biggest obstacle” to their pro-life activities in the Peruvian Congress was from NGOs funded by the US State Department through USAID, the United States Agency for International Development.ÂAuthor of The Window, “A Catholic Look at Society, Culture and Politics,” Deal Hudson, in the August 1 edition, writes that he met with the lawmakers to discuss their pro-life work in the Peruvian government. “The NGOs are using millions of American dollars to promote abortion, feminism, and gender rights in Peru, where 80 percent of the population is Catholic,” he revealed. “They insist these NGOs should lose their funding.”Last year, Ten Peruvian Congressmen wrote a letter to USAID Administrator Andrew Natsios charging the agency with conniving to change Peru’s laws to allow abortion. The letter gave details, such as that on October 11, 2003, “USAID/Peru funded an event at which the legalization of surgical abortion was promoted.”The Population Research Institute (PRI), an organization dedicated to dispelling the myth of over-population and to protecting individuals and countries from being targeted, wrote in a release last year, “the funding of this [USAID-funded October, 2003] conference, and of organizations that are pushing for abortion on demand in Peru, is a blatant violation of U.S. law.” Said PRI’s Steven Mosher, the speakers at the conference did not try to hide their intention regarding Peru’s laws. One speaker said, “. . . the other matter we must acknowledge [about abortion] is that of illegality.
