March 26, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The father of a baby who was forcibly aborted in China last week has spoken briefly with a U.S.-based human rights group that opposes the country’s one-child policy.

News of the abortion broke yesterday after a graphic photo of the aborted child, who was killed at seven-months gestation, began circulating on the Internet.

Local family planning officials were reportedly tipped off by an informant regarding the illegal pregnancy of the 33-year-old mother, and dragged her to the local hospital.

There, under the authority of a local Family Planning Official named Mr. Cui, they injected a needle into the woman’s uterus to kill the baby inside and to induce labor.  The dead baby emerged two days later on March 24.

ChinaAid said today it has briefly interviewed the woman's husband, who said he was lawfully protesting to the local government and holding discussions with them. He also expressed gratitude that the outside world was paying attention to the case.

“(I'm) her husband.  (The lethal injection) took place last Friday (March 22).  (My wife) is doing okay physically,” he said. “The government has already stepped forward to negotiate this matter, and the government right now is in the middle of discussions.  (We) haven't yet (hired) a lawyer. If the government does not compromise, I'll call you!”

Under China’s one-child policy, families are only allowed to have one child, although exceptions for a second child are sometimes made for rural couples whose first child is a girl. The policy is enforced through forced abortions and sterilizations, as well as crippling fines that sometimes amount to several times a family's income.

In a press release ChinaAid called “on all people of conscience worldwide to stand in unity to strongly condemn this act and to urge the Chinese government to punish the perpetrators and abolish its forcibly enforced family planning policy.”

“Let us speak for these babies who cannot utter a sound and protect the right to life of the weakest among us.  The right to life is the first human right.”

Last week, the Chinese government released statistics showing that 336 million abortions had been performed under its draconian family planning policies, dating back to the 1970’s.

Social media is proving to be a powerful means of exposing the brutal methods employed by family planning officials in China. Last June, another graphic photo of a child forcibly aborted at seven months also circulated on social media, bringing international condemnation against the one-child policy.
