OCALA, FL, September 20, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Last week, dozens of unborn children were killed in a type of Blue Light Special at abortionist James Scott Pendergraft’s abortion facility in Ocala, Florida, as he offered a free chemical abortion with the purchase of a $150 sonogram, all week long. The sonogram is a pre-abortion requirement in the state of Florida.

The discount meant that Pendergraft committed the abortions at less than half his normal rate: $495 for 3-9 weeks gestation, $525 for 10-12 weeks, $600 for 13-14 weeks.

Although free abortions have run their course, another of Pendergraft’s clinics in Orlando is making a new appeal to abortion-vulnerable women with a “limited time” offer on his website for $170 off abortion procedures at all five of his Florida facilities and a coupon for $50 off abortions on Sundays at his Orlando facility. Sidewalk counselors reported 40-50 women entering the doors of his Orlando facility yesterday.

Troy Newman of Operation Rescue told LifeSiteNews.com that he suspects that Pendergraft was able to offer the discounts because he “found a scam, some way to bill for the abortions without billing the patients directly.”

Pendergraft, whose medical license is currently under probation after serving his fourth career suspension, was served with a $37.7 million judgment last year for a botched abortion that left the baby maimed instead of dead.

Newman said that after being hit with the judgment, which he has yet to pay, and subsequently having his license suspended, “Pendergraft is not only hard-pressed for cash, he is in a mountain of debt and needing to drum up new business,” all the while dodging his “terrible reputation.”

LifeSiteNews called Pendergraft’s Orlando facility and was told by a staff person that their owner’s free abortion offer was just a short-term special promotion, but Pendergraft’s facilities do use “special funds” to supplement the cost of the abortions they commit during normal operations.

“Right now, the economics of abortion are being artificially funded. And, if we can remove taxpayer funding of abortion, we win,” Newman said.

Abortionists “know that every dollar they increase their abortion prices decreases their client numbers, so they have to find alternate ways to pay for those abortions,” Newman said. “The only way the abortion cartel is being kept afloat is through artificial means such as taxpayer funding, National Abortion Federation funds…[and] population control fanatic billionaires like George Soros.”

Pendergraft has not always offered his services on the cheap. LifeSiteNews reported in July that Pendergraft offered to commit late term abortions for a $10,000 apiece.

When not promoting his own facility, Pendergraft is marketing and recruiting women to abortionist Harold O. Alexander’s late term abortion facility in Maryland, an arrangement which is also fraught with controversy due to complaints issued against Alexander, which resulted in his license being suspended last month.

Updated: 10/05/12 to correct a statement suggesting that Pendergraft has paid the $37 million judgment issued against him for botching an abortion. The abortionist has yet to pay the judgment.
