ATLANTA, January 9, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) – As Planned Parenthood announced that it received record government funding in 2012, a Georgia abortionist was indicted for defrauding the state’s Medicaid program by illegally billing it for elective abortion procedures.

Officials announced that they had arrested Dr. Andre Damian Williams last Wednesday for improperly charging the state $205,003 for treatments related to abortion. The DeKalb County Grand Jury had indicted Williams on December 20.

The Georgia Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is now investigating the 62-year-old OB/GYN, who runs DeKalb Gynecology Associates and Legacy Obstetrics, as well as another business.

The attorney general’s office contends Williams violated the Hyde Amendment from January 2009 until September 2011, charging the state for ultrasounds, pregnancy tests, and ultrasounds that were part of an abortion as though they were stand-alone treatments.

Officials also say he overbilled the state or received payment for services he never rendered.

If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

The charges come just as the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, announced that it had received a record-breaking $487 million from taxpayers in its 2012 report.

The list of charges matches a series of allegations critics and former employees have made against abortionists over the years. The Alliance Defending Freedom issued a 23-page report last year detailing a potential $99 million in fraud

Late last year, a judge threw out Susan Thayer’s lawsuit that Planned Parenthood had defrauded Iowa taxpayers $28 million. Yet more troubling allegations – including lawsuits from other former employees – remain.

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland CEO Jill June calls such lawsuits a form of harassment

Such allegations, coupled with federal funding led Fox News personality Bill O’Reilly to call for an audit of Planned Parenthood on his program this week.

Dr. Williams graduated from Howard University medical school in 1977.

His son, Damian Williams, 31, works in Manhattan as an assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York.
