November 29, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – First there was ultrasound. Then there was 3D ultrasound. Now a company in Japan is giving parents a new way to see and connect with their unborn child in the womb – a 3D model of their child that they can hold in their hands.

The technology, known as Bio-Texture modeling, uses an MRI to create a three-dimensional computer image of the unborn child in his mother’s womb. This computer model is then turned into a real-life model using 3D printing which uses two different resins – one color for the mother, and another for the baby.

The service, which the company calls “Shape of an Angel,” costs 100,000 yen (about $1,200 U.S.).

Tomohiro Kinoshita, a marketing representative at Fasotec, said that mothers who have tried the service say it “felt great to see how their babies looked before birth.”

“They also enjoyed looking at the model after birth, thinking, ‘This is how my baby looked inside me’ and recalling how it felt to be pregnant,” he said.

Kinoshita said that the technology was originally developed to create highly lifelike models of the human body to help train physicians and healthcare workers.

“We’ve started this service as a spin-off,” he said.

For pro-life activists, the technology provides one more tool to show the world that the child in the womb is human, and possesses the right to life.
