GERMANTOWN, MD, February 26, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Enough women have died from late-term abortions at the hands of LeRoy Carhart, and he should lose his license. That's the message of a new website and petition launched by a coalition of pro-life groups, including LifeSiteNews.com, urging the Maryland Board of Physicians to suspend Carhart's medical license.

Readers may sign the petition, which is posted on the website StopCarhart.com and supported by LifeSiteNews.com, Operation Rescue, Jill Stanek, Students for Life in America, Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, Rock for Life, and Live Action.

Carhart's most recent victim is 29-year-old Jennifer Morbelli, who died of a botched abortion at 33-weeks on February 7.

In 2005 Christin Gilbert, a disabled woman, died during a late-term abortion performed by Carthart's hand in Wichita, Kansas.

“This is an opportunity for us all to step up to the plate and join together in an effort to stop Carhart’s dangerous abortion business through peaceful, legal means,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue. “Unless the board hears from us, it could very well sweep this case under the rug. If board members and staff know that America is watching them and will hold them publicly accountable, it might help them do the right thing.”

The deadline to sign the petition is March 11.

The movement to revoke Carhart's credentials is spreading. The group Defend Life has a similar but separate petition. “We have been warning the Maryland Board of Physicians and other state officials since 2010 that something like this was going to happen,” said Jack Ames, the group's co-founder and director. “Sadly, we sensed it was only a matter of time until another young mother was killed by the hands of Leroy Carhart.”

The full text of the LifeSiteNews-endorsed petition reads:

We, the undersigned, are filing a citizens complaint to support the February 19, 2013 official complaint against late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart, filed by Operation Rescue. We are asking for an immediate emergency suspension of his Maryland Medical License until his disciplinary case can be fully adjudicated and his license permanently revoked in light of the following allegations:

  • Carhart was negligent in failing to diagnose Morbelli’s deteriorating condition, then abandoned her by leaving the state just hours before his suffering patient was rushed to the hospital where she later died. Efforts by family and hospital staff to contact Carhart were unsuccessful and further delayed her care.

  • Carhart improperly performed the risky 33-week abortion in a outpatient clinic “without adequate emergency facilities to properly handle known complications and medical emergencies.” Also at issue is the lack of monitoring of his patient while prescribing her powerful uterine contracting drugs.

  • The official complaint documents 13 violations of the Maryland Medical Practice Act and one violation of a criminal statute related to Second Degree Murder and can be read here.

Signed,

Operation Rescue, Students for Life of America, Live Action, JillStanek.com, LifeSiteNews.com, Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, Rock for Life, and YOU!
