OTTAWA, July 29 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Liberals have once again raised the ire of pro-family Canadians, in particular, devoted parents. According to a story in the National Post today, a top proposal from a discussion paper put together by Health Canada’s Childhood and Youth Division,  includes a recommendation for universal daycare and kindergarten for children as young as three years of age. These recommendations, if implemented, would be part of a multi-billion dollar “child-care” system that the National Post says is being designed to offer Canadians a distinct alternative to the tax cut vision of the Reform Party.

By introducing new programs for younger and younger children, and making them universal to boot, the federal government is necessarily interfering further in the private lives of families, thereby violating parental rights. Peter Stock, National Affairs Director for the Canada Family Action Coalition, told LifeSite that this is another example of “the Liberals deciding they know best how to raise our children – and they’re going to spend our hard-  earned income to do it. It is a gross assault on parental rights and family autonomy.”

The bureaucrats who produced the paper (which NP says was leaked to Kerry McCuaig of the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care) noted that it is becoming increasingly harder for parents to raise their own children, but instead of holding the government accountable for this situation, and recommending tax relief so that families can regain some of their lost independence, the civil servants argued in favour of further micro-managing of the family by the government: “It is increasingly unrealistic to expect that parents can undertake the task of ensuring early child development outcomes without systematic and structured support.  The tasks are just too complicated and the competing demands on parents too engaging.”
