WASHINGTON, D.C., March 13, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Once again, mainstream media sources are proving that the facts take second-fiddle to bashing pro-life politicians.

This morning, outlets such as The Washington Post, Huffington Post, and the Associated Press ran articles claiming that Sen. Tex Cruz, R-TX, called pro-abortion advocates “satanists” and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) called pro-abortion advocates “savages.” The leading pro-life senators were speaking at the Susan B. Anthony List's “Campaign for Life” Summit in Washington, D.C.

As recorded by LifeSiteNews and videotaped by Katie Yoder of the Media Research Center, neither statement is accurate.

Rather than calling abortion protestors “satanists,” Cruz instead cited how advocates at the Texas State House “began chanting 'Hail Satan'” after “pro-life protestors put their arms around each other and [sang] 'Amazing Grace'” during State Sen. Wendy Davis' filibuster for late-term abortions.

“At least it's truth in advertising,” he said. “But that is in fact what they were doing, arm-in-arm, chanting 'Hail Satan,' embracing the right to take the life of a late-term child.”

As LifeSiteNews and dozens of other organizations reported at the time of Davis' filibuster, abortion advocates did indeed chant “Hail Satan.” The Associated Press has corrected its lead paragraph and one other to more accurately reflect Cruz's statements – without formally letting readers know of the corrections.

The AP also reported that Senator Lee “said those who support abortion rights favor a 'culture of death' and engage in 'savagery.'” However, again as recorded by LifeSiteNews and videotaped by Yoder, Lee actually said, of pro-abortion protesters, that he “refuse[s] to call them pro-choice because I think that’s a euphemism that overlooks the kind of savage butchery that they advocate.”

Lee said that abortion advocates “showed up at our home in Virginia. A big grey-hound bus full of them and they were carrying signs and they were shouting slogans.”

Nowhere did Lee say any person engages in “savagery.” Instead, he called abortion “savage butchery.” The AP has so far failed to correct its inaccurate depiction of what Lee said.
