TORONTO, March 4, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Family Coalition Party of Ontario announced Thursday the candidacy of Paul Micelli for the seat left vacant by the resignation of former Premier Ernie Eves in Dufferin – Peel – Wellington – Grey. Progressive Conservative leader John Tory, who is without a seat in the Legislature, is expecting to win the riding. The riding is considered a “safe” conservative riding.

For this reason, says the FCP, Paul Micelli is expected to receive a large percentage of the conservative votes, against his “progressive” opponents.

“Every issue in this by-election is a family issue (health, education, environment, etc)” – says Micelli – “and no other party is more committed to the promotion and well being of the family than the Family Coalition Party.” With only two weeks remaining to election day, the voters in the rural riding North of Brampton are even more frustrated than in the previous “leadership” by-election.

While Mr. Eves was considered to be “to the left of center” within his party, Mr. Tory is considered to be so much to the left to be almost undistinguishable from his Liberal opposition.

Known for his “progressive” position on the abortion and same-sex marriage issues, Mr. Tory decided then to run for the Leadership of the Progressive Conservatives against Jim Flaherty, who represented the conservative wing of the party. John Tory won the contest and has since moved the provincial PC party to an even more “progressive” and less conservative position than under the leadership of its former leader Ernie Eves. Under John Tory’s leadership, for example, the same-sex marriage bill (Bill 171) passed last week without opposition.
