Planned Parenthood sets new record for abortion numbers, profit: report

FRONT ROYAL, VA, January 7, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Planned Parenthood achieved record numbers of abortions and posted record profit levels in the 2011-2012 fiscal year, according to a report from the Planned Parenthood watchdog organization Life Decisions International (LDI).

“For decades now, Planned Parenthood has operated the most proficient killing machine in the United States,” said Douglas R. Scott, Jr., president of LDI, in a press release. “And the machine has set yet another record.”

The report notes that in 2011-2012 PPFA “slaughtered a record 333,964 preborn children, generating an estimated $150 million,” and that overall nearly $1.2 billion in revenue was generated.

“PPFA’s income included a hefty and ever-increasing check from American taxpayers. In 2009-2010, government funding reached a whopping $487.4 million. In 2010-2011 the figure jumped to $538.5 million. The total for 2011-2012 reached a staggering $542.4 million, which represents 45.2 percent of the group’s total annual budget,” the report states.

Scott said PPFA’s greatest ally has always been public ignorance of its agenda and activities.

“Do you remember when Planned Parenthood was crying over the disastrous blow it claimed would have been done to healthcare for women if Susan G. Komen for the Cure were to stop funding the controversial group?” Scott asked.

“‘Women will die! Women will die!!’ This is what everyone was told. Yet this ‘not-for-profit’ goliath ends every fiscal year with millions of dollars in ‘excess revenue over expenses,’” Scott said. This “excess revenue,” he added, “is also known by another name - ‘profit.’”

LDI points out that the “excess” for 2010-2011 was a record $155.5 million, while in 2011-2012, the excess was $87.4 million.

“Still,” Scott remarked, “Planned Parenthood and its affiliates often make wild claims whenever a corporation, organization or government entity chooses to eliminate or cut funding. Since the 2000-2001 fiscal year, PPFA has had a total ‘excess’ of $771 million.”

LDI also found that “only 2,300 Planned Parenthood customers were referred to adoption agencies during the 2011-2012 fiscal year.”

“The Pro-Life Movement can be proud for its ongoing efforts to expose Planned Parenthood’s true agenda,” Scott concluded. “The more public ‘black eyes’ Planned Parenthood receives; the harder it will be for the group to get away with lying to and bullying the American people.”

Colorado baker appeals gvmt ‘re-education’ order

LifeSiteNews staff
By LifeSiteNews staff

A Colorado cake artist who declined to use his creative talents to promote and endorse a same-sex ceremony appealed a May 30 order from the Colorado Civil Rights Commission to the Colorado Court of Appeals Wednesday.

The commission’s order requires cake artist Jack Phillips and his staff at Masterpiece Cakeshop to create cakes for same-sex celebrations, forces him to re-educate his staff that Colorado’s Anti-Discrimination Act means that artists must endorse all views, compels him to implement new policies to comply with the commission’s order, and requires him to file quarterly “compliance” reports for two years. The reports must include the number of patrons declined a wedding cake or any other product and state the reason for doing so to ensure he has fully eliminated his religious beliefs from his business.

“Americans should not be forced by the government – or by another citizen – to endorse or promote ideas with which they disagree,” said the cake artist’s lead counsel Nicolle Martin, an attorney allied with Alliance Defending Freedom. “This is not about the people who asked for a cake; it’s about the message the cake communicates. Just as Jack doesn’t create baked works of art for other events with which he disagrees, he doesn’t create cake art for same-sex ceremonies regardless of who walks in the door to place the order.”

“In America, we don’t force artists to create expression that is contrary to their convictions,” added Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Legal Counsel Jeremy Tedesco. “A paint artist who identifies as homosexual shouldn’t be intimidated into creating a painting that celebrates one-man, one-woman marriage. A pro-life photographer shouldn’t be forced to work a pro-abortion rally. And Christian cake artists shouldn’t be punished for declining to participate in a same-sex ceremony or promote its message.”

In July 2012, Charlie Craig and David Mullins asked Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, to make a wedding cake to celebrate their same-sex ceremony. In an exchange lasting about 30 seconds, Phillips politely declined, explaining that he would gladly make them any other type of baked item they wanted but that he could not make a cake promoting a same-sex ceremony because of his faith. Craig and Mullins, now represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, immediately left the shop and later filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Division. The case now goes to the Colorado Court of Appeals as Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Craig.

“Jack, and other cake artists like him – such as those seen on TV shows like ‘Ace of Cakes’ and ‘Cake Boss’ – prepare unique creations that are inherently expressive,” Tedesco explained. “Jack invests many hours in the wedding cake creative process, which includes meeting the clients, designing and sketching the cake, and then baking, sculpting, and decorating it. The ACLU calls Jack a mere ‘retail service provider,’ but, in fact, he is an artist who uses his talents and abilities to create expression that the First Amendment fully protects."

Celebrity cake artists have written publicly about their art and the significant expressive work that goes into the artistic design process for wedding cakes.

Wireless birth control is no fantasy

Judie Brown
By Judie Brown

Recent reports announcing the era of remote-control contraception herald the very real but slightly horrifying prospects for the future for those who believe that man can literally transform himself into a machine. This phenomenon is known as the cult of transhumanism.

One news report calls the remote dispensation of contraception “creepy.” Another explains how this may come to fruition: “A challenge from Bill Gates two years ago has put science on the cusp of a revolutionary, remote-controlled method of birth control.”

Technology Review says the wireless implant, if approved for safety and efficacy, could make it possible for a woman to turn her birth control on and off at will by using a remote-control device. The implanted chip contains the chemical levonorgestrel—the same ingredient in Plan B One-Step (emergency contraception). So a woman would literally be able to abort children by remote control.

CBS News states, “The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has committed funding to a preclinical trial on a user-controlled microchip that can effectively prevent unwanted pregnancies for up to 16 years. The futuristic birth control method could make it to the general market as early as 2018.”

Upon hearing of this latest Gates Foundation venture, Professor Dianne Irving sent this comment to her e-mail list on July 10:

Well, if Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” is accurate, then the majority of women today who succumb to this “remote contraceptive” lure for “family planning” being promoted by MIT will be rendered infertile, thus significantly reducing the number of such women in the future. Have to give Bill Gates “credit” for advancing this creative eugenics pop control agenda—especially for women in Third World countries. And while “chemical” control is bad enough, what happens when someone else gains physical access to the woman’s remote control??? Human traffickers and rejected former lovers rejoice!

This valuable insight should give each of us pause. The truth of the matter is that even among Catholic communities, there are growing numbers of men and women—young and old—who have never heard Catholic teaching on contraception, do not understand why the Church defines it as evil, and consistently balk at being told the truth. Catholics like these have no problem with the government mandating taxpayers like you and me to pay for contraception.

This is but one reason why it may well come to pass that this latest freaky discovery may grow into something so popular that the negative effects it is destined to have will be noted too late.

On the other hand, SALON’s Sarah Gray cautions that, as of today,

There are, of course, large kinks to work out before this could become a viable contraceptive method (not including political battles over birth control). A commenter on MIT Technology Review worries about who could potentially control such a device without the woman’s consent. It is a rather scary prospect.

The chips would need all sorts of encryption to protect data and keep the device safe from hackers. As technology entwines itself more and more within the fabric of our being—quite literally in this case—we must tread carefully, especially in terms of health.

Time will tell whether or not the transition of the human being from human to a combination of human and machine will really overtake mankind.

Transhumanists are prepared for this future. We must not forget these wise words written by Linda Kimball:

Transhumanism is a powerfully influential planetary “elite” movement that believes man can begin a radical transfiguration of himself by merging his brain with technology with the long term goal of eventually transferring his “essence” out of his decaying body and into a highly advanced robo-machine.

Kimball concludes, “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.’ All that are in Hell chose it.”

And that is absolutely no fantasy!

Pro-life assaults on the rise: activist group

Philip Wegmann
By Philip Wegmann

There has been a rise in attacks on pro-lifers, according to an activist group.

Seth Drayer, Director of Training for pro-life group Created Equal, views the attacks as a sign of the movement’s success. Drayer told The Daily Signal that these incidents represent “a desperate attempt” at censure because the opposition “knows we have a winning strategy.”

Earlier in July, Created Equal made headlines when Drayer was assaulted during a sidewalk protest of abortion in downtown Columbus, Ohio. This video of an abortion supporter disrupting the event and assaulting Drayer went viral:

Drayer says this is the first physical assault he’s experienced but reports that “there has been a rise in the number of attacks.” In a separate interview, Created Equal executive director Mark Harrington claimed that “violent attacks on pro-lifers are becoming more common.”

A national organization with a focus on the millennial generation, Created Equal trains thousands of college students to discuss and debate the abortion issue on college campuses and street corners.

At each protest, the group prominently displays violent and gruesome images of aborted children to spark conversation. Drayer, who is unapologetic for the graphic content, argues that “every successful social reform movement has always directly and graphically exposed injustice rather than hiding it.”

Well aware of the inflammatory nature of the topic, Drayer says that his group doesn’t create conflict but rather works to exposes it.

“Whenever you have injustice, it creates a lot of hidden tension because we can’t corporately as a nation kill, decapitate, dismember, and disembowel 3,000 humans every day without there being some byproduct of frustration or pain that’s been hidden or pushed away.”

To diffuse this tension, the group tries to emulate the American Civil Right movement by following a strict strategy of passive non-violence. Drayer explained that just as Martin Luther King, Jr., “contrasted racism and love” his group hopes to “contrast abortion with love.”

An evangelical Christian, Drayer says that his faith and the example of King have motivated his and the organization’s response to the recent assault. Created Equal has already offered to drop all charges if the abortion supporter will apologize.

“The offer is still there. We’ve forgiven her and we hold no malice toward her,” Drayer explained.
