LOS ANGELES, March 22, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Rapper Mack Maine's newest single is being noticed for its Gospel themes and intensely personal message – including the revelation that his mother nearly aborted him.

The new song “Celebrate,” which features fellow rappers Lil Wayne and Talib Kweli, states: “They said I was s'posed to die as a fetus/My mama said, 'I bind that Devil in the name of Jesus.'”

Mack told MTV's Rap Fix Live the story behind the lyric.

“My mom was about to abort me,” he said. “She was about to have an abortion. She was lying on the table, and she changed her life at that moment.”

Maine said the brief period when an abortion industry worker asked his mother for her consent gave her time enough to reflect and make a radical transformation.

“She changed her life that day, and got saved and became a Christian,” Mack said. His mother, he said, went on to be a minister of the Gospel.

The song contains more traditional elements of rap music, including a handful of curse words and references to smoking marijuana.

It also tells its listeners, “Open ya Bibles up with no hesitation…Take a knee and thank the Man and leave my life in God's hands.”

The discussion of the abortion begins at approximately 3:16 into the video.
