NEW YORK, February 25, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) – News giant Thomson Reuters has waded into the arena of culture wars with an announcement on February 20 that it is throwing its support behind the same-sex “marriage” bill currently before the British Parliament.
“Thomson Reuters applauds the latest passage of the Bill and encourages its completion through the legislative process,” said the U.S.-based Thomson Reuters in a blog post. By voicing our endorsement of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill, we continue to demonstrate our active support for equal opportunities for all our staff and all government legislation that promotes equality.”
Reuters justifies its endorsement of homosexual “marriage” in the UK on the grounds that many of its affiliated organizations had supported the British drive to redefine marriage and the family, as well. “Many leading companies – many of whom are our global clients – take active positions in supporting marriage equality,” the blog post stated. “We are pleased to join them. Supporting this legislation is consistent with our diversity and inclusion policies and agenda, and positions us well in the eyes of our people – current and prospective – as well as the LGBT community.”
Thomson Reuters thus joins other liberal media companies such as The Times, the London Evening Standard, and the Guardian, in opposing traditional marriage.
The company has already come out against traditional marriage last July when it opposed a constitutional amendment forbidding the redefinition of marriage in its home state of Minnesota. The news service — which states the endorsement will not affect its coverage of the tense social issue — is also a member of the Business Coalition for DOMA Repeal, an advocacy group formed by the George Soros-financed Human Rights Campaign.
Reuters stated its participation in the coalition “put into action our company’s stance on diversity, equality and fairness.”
It calls its support for the UK bill the “latest example of our commitment to marriage equality.”

During the debate that ended in the passage of the same-sex “marriage” bill, Tory MP Roger Gale summed up the position of those opposed to the change, saying it had nothing to do with “equality,” but with a presumption that government can change the objective reality of marriage through legislation.
“It is not possible to redefine marriage,” Gale said. “Marriage is the union between a man and a woman, has been historically, remains so. It is Alice in Wonderland territory, Orwellian almost, for any government of any political persuasion to seek to come along and try to re-write the lexicon. It will not do.”
On February 5, 400 Members of Parliament voted in favor of a law redefining marriage in Britain, with 175 MPs voting “no.” The bill has gone to committee for further scrutiny.
The media conglomerate was created by the purchase of the Reuters Group by the Thomson Corporation in 2008.
