DUBLIN, June 22, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In early June a new group in Ireland called “Women Hurt” launched a nationwide billboard campaign to reach out to women suffering from the after-effects of abortion. The large posters show photos of women with portions of their testimonies about their post-abortion sufferings.

Bernadette Goulding, spokesperson for the group, and one of the women pictured on the posters, said: “My hope is that by sharing my story, it will help someone who is suffering in silence, to know that there is hope and there is healing.” Goulding added, “Women Hurt wishes to break silence surrounding the suffering some women endure after abortion.

Susan McKay, director of the National Women’s Council of Ireland, described Women Hurt’s nationwide billboard campaign as “harsh” and “cruel.” But “Women Hurt” rejected her claims, saying that the National Women’s Council “are either in denial about the devastating after-effects of abortion for some women or they have a deep seated ideological aversion to hearing an alternative viewpoint.”

Women Hurt spokesperson Lynn Coles explained, “Women Hurt has no political or religious agenda of any kind. We simply exist to share our stories of hope and healing with women who find themselves in similar situations having regretted the decision to opt for abortion.”

Coles concluded, “We have no intention of engaging in an ongoing war of words with the National Women’s Council of Ireland or anyone else but we will certainly defend our right to exist as a group and not be intimidated out of the public arena.”
