January 28, 2013 (ProlifeAction) – Last Wednesday, the day after the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood of Illinois threw a gala fundraiser in Chicago.

It was one of the coldest days of the year so far, but that didn’t stop over 30 stalwart activists from taking to the streets to remind them that “Abortion is Nothing to Celebrate.”

The party was held at the swanky Carnivale restaurant and featured keynote speaker and former Obama advisor David Axelrod and was very well attended. But nobody got into that party without being reminded of the reality of abortion, Planned Parenthood’s cash cow.

Pro-lifers held signs showing the victims of 1st and 2nd trimester abortions as well as signs reading “Planned Parenthood Lies to You” and “Abortion is Nothing to Celebrate.”

Police initially tried to restrict the protest to the opposite side of the street from the restaurant, but Pro-life Action League Executive Director Eric Scheidler asserted the group's First Amendment rights by setting up the protest in front of the restaurant where we had a perfect right to be. Police let the demonstration proceed uninterrupted after that.

Though VIPs usually enter these types of events through a back door, Axelrod strolled right in the front through the gauntlet of abortion signs and protesters.

As he passed, Eric cried out, “David Axelrod! I thought Democrats were for the little guy. Who’s littler than an unborn baby?”

Despite the extreme cold, activists’ spirits were high and the protest ran longer than originally planned as guests continued to arrive late. Nobody wanted to end the protest till every guest had seen the reality of abortion.

Eric gave interviews with Medill News Service, Univision, WGN TV and WBBM radio. Abortion supporters saw the truth and the media took note. Together, that makes for a successful protest and a fitting way to mark this mournful anniversary.
