SURREY, BC, Feb 29 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver have launched a joint intervention into the case of the Surrey School Board which appealed a ruling denying them the right to refuse to approve books for kindergarten and Grade 1 that featured same-sex parents. The case will be heard in the BC Court of Appeals in mid-June.
LifeSite reported in 1998 that the school board had overwhelming public support in its decision to forbid the books urged by homosexual activists. The board’s decision was challenged in court by a gay activist group of teachers in the province.
“The practical implications of this decision are that any parent can be heard on educational issues except religious parents,” says Janet Epp Buckingham, General Legal Counsel for the EFC. Gary Walsh, President of EFC, said, “The Christian community cannot stand silent as courts take away our right to participate in the public life of Canada.”
