(LifeSiteNews) — Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said the head of the Republican Party needs to resign over her new “Pride Coalition.”

The new group launched by Ronna McDaniel at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club is supposed to reach out to homosexual Republicans because they “enrich” the party with “unique perspectives.”

“Conservatives in Log Cabin [a homosexual Republican group] don’t just share our vision for a free, secure and prosperous America — they enrich it by adding unique perspectives to our party and recruiting even more diverse candidates and supporters to join our cause,” said McDaniel, the niece of moderate Republican Senator Mitt Romney, according to CNS News.

Perkins, a former Republican Congressman from Louisiana, said the GOP chairwoman needs to retire from her post.

“I think it’s time for her to take up something else and leave the party to those who I think can chart a path forward, restore what has been lost, and make sure that the Republicans, the conservatives regain the majority — both in Congress and continue to see victories in states across the nation,” Perkins told Todd Starnes on Wednesday.

“I think she needs to step down,” he continued. “She has outlived her purpose at the RNC.”

“If the Republicans get this wrong they become a Democrat-lite party, and I think they begin to lose immensely,” Perkins said, “because Republicans disproportionately get their support from social conservatives, they have to be mindful of that and they have to continue to advance a values platform that is consistent with the traditional values that made America great.”

He encouraged conservatives to donate directly to individual candidates instead of to the Republican Party.

President Donald Trump’s family is supportive of moving the GOP toward fully embracing the homosexual agenda.

“Log Cabin Republicans’ leadership has done a wonderful job inspiring unity and promoting tolerance and inclusion for all,” First Lady Melania Trump told Fox News.

Tiffany Trump, the president’s daughter, previously spoke at a homosexual Republican advocacy event.

“I know what my father believes in. Prior to politics, he supported gays, lesbians, the LGBQIA+ community,” Tiffany Trump said in October 2020.

Other conservative Republicans have come out against the partnership with the Log Cabin Republicans.

“Using people for their identity is what the Democrats do, not Republicans,” Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted.

“This actually hurts the Log Cabin Republicans by grifting their fundraising & weakens their effectiveness,” Greene said.

Catholic Matt Walsh, a commentator with the Daily Wire also criticized the new coalition.

“Trump hosted and attended an event over the weekend where the GOP unveiled its new ‘RNC Pride Coalition,’” Walsh said. “If the Republican Party is going to fully embrace leftist sexual identity politics, then it officially serves no purpose.”

He challenged Ric Grenell, a former acting Director of National Intelligence and open homosexual, who had said Walsh’s views were from the “Stone Age.”

“In order to prove that we are modern and hip, we must adopt all of the left’s major cultural and philosophical assumptions,” Walsh said sarcastically. “Keep up with that strategy. It’s worked so well for the last three decades.”
