ANKARA, September 16, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Rather than jeopardize the country’s chances of joining the European Union, Turkey’s government announced Tuesday a decision to scrap a proposal to make adultery illegal. The decision came after a meeting between the ruling Justice and Development Party and the main opposition, the pro-secular Republican Peoples Party.  An EU commission is expected to release a report on the country’s readiness to join the alliance in October, based on pre-determined EU criteria. EU Commissioners from the Netherlands, which allows homosexual ‘marriage’, and Austria are opposing Turkey’s entrance into the EU.
