IRELAND, May 21, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Faithful Catholic priests are urging the Irish to vote “no” to abortion on May 25, citing their support for the right to life and the devastation abortion has brought on other countries.
The Irish Confraternity of Catholic Clergy issued the following statement:
The Irish Confraternity of Catholic Clergy, convinced of the right to life of every human being from conception to natural death, reflecting on the statements of medical and legal experts and the call of the Irish Bishops and also taking into account studies of the devastating personal, family and social consequences of abortion in the United Kingdom, the United States of America and other countries, strongly encourages people to vote No in the Referendum on 25th May 2018. The Confraternity is convinced that the present Eighth Amendment should be retained because it provides adequate safeguards for the right to life of both the mother and child. The Confraternity encourages people to read or re/read the statements of their local Bishops calling for a No vote which are available online at: www.chooselife2018.ie
The priests who are part of this global confraternity present a Catholic alternative to the statement of Ireland’s Association of Catholic Priests, a small fringe group, who say they won’t tell people to vote against abortion.
The bishops of Ireland have urged the country once known for its Catholic heritage and culture to reject abortion. Abortion-free Ireland is currently one of the safest places in the world for a mother to give birth.
