May 24, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – My parents never forgot their Irish roots. Their callused hands have long-since disappeared from this earth, but their spirit still beats strongly – within us.
When they boarded that raft in Cobh to be ferried to a British ocean liner for an Atlantic crossing, calmly – but firmly – they were admonished, “Keep the Faith”. They did.
Embedded in their souls were the words of those 10 Commandments taught to them in their thatched-roof homes. The first of these was, “Thou shalt not have any gods before me.” They never did – even with many setbacks including the sudden death of an infant child. Bridget and John knew they were only giving back to God His creation.
Another command they followed was, “Thou shalt not murder.”
Their breed has courage and their history was replete with it.
My parents would be appalled to know that their fellow countrymen are staking the very lives of preborn children on the outcome of a referendum that has been influenced by global elites who care nothing for Ireland or her children.
God Protect Ireland! And at this crossroad in the Irish story, many understandably are praying for the miraculous intervention of Our Lady of Knock.
The human being is clearly the most valuable creation in all of existence – bar none. And from that launching pad, protecting human life is not only necessary, but mandatory.
Each of us are part of the human species, and each of us started as one single cell, a zygote. All that was necessary for our flourishing was that two conditions be met: that sufficient time be allowed for us to develop, and that we be permitted to stay in the same location during that development. Every human needs nine months to develop and the safety of a mother’s womb to develop in.
Any arguments denying these two conditions to the smallest of our human brothers and sisters are simply immoral.
The Irish Constitution now protects the life of the pre-born child, as well as his or her mother.
To vote a repeal of the 8th Amendment of the Irish Constitution is to tell the world that we of Irish blood are really no different from all those who have persecuted the Irish people throughout the history of our country.
To vote to repeal the 8th would be to forget our own history of being a people who were targeted by those who thought of us as less deserving of life and protection. If you, my Irish countrymen, vote to repeal the 8th Amendment of the Constitution, you would have become the new persecutors of Ireland, the new face of violence against Ireland’s vulnerable.
In this referendum, there is really only one choice. We must vote to protect the innocent. We must vote to protect life. We must vote to protect our country’s future.
We must vote “No” on repealing the 8th.
As we say in Ireland, “Erin go Bragh,” that is “For Eternity”
