BIRMINGHAM, Jan 30 (LSN) – After the bomb exploded in the Alabama clinic Thursday, police handcuffed and took a man into custody. That man was innocent pro-lifer Minzor Chadwick whose arrest by police was carried around the world by television reporters hungry for a pro-life prey. BIRMINGHAM, Jan 29 (LSN)—A bomb exploded at the New Woman All Women Health Care abortuary near Birmingham this morning resulting in the death of one police officer and severe injury to a nurse. Police have taken a suspect into custody. The suspect, a white man about 40, was wearing a suit and tie and a knit stocking cap.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Jan 29 (LSN)—Using the same method as Robert Latimer did to kill his 12-year old daughter Tracy, Bert Doerksen, 79, killed his wife Susan Doerksen, 78. The body of Susan Doerksen, was found in a car parked in the garage of the couple’s home on Nov. 26, 1997. A large hose attached to the car’s exhaust pipe ran through a car window, which was sealed off with cardboard and duct tape.

LONDON, Jan 23 (LSN) – The Carnegie Commission on Preventing Deadly Conflict presented its recommendations to the Clinton administration and to Britain (which currently holds the presidency of the European Union) after three years of study. Using cow’s eggs as incubators,  the researchers cloned sheep, pigs, rats, cattle and rhesus monkeys.  Thus far the pregnancies resulting from the cloned animal embryos have all resulted in miscarriages.

OTTAWA, Jan 16 (LSN) – The number of pregnancies among women 15 to 19 rose to 45,771 in 1995, compared with 39,340 in 1987, a rise of 15.3 per cent, Statistics Canada reported today. The organization also reported that the proportion of teen pregnancies ending in abortion rose to 45 per cent in 1994 from 26 per cent in 1974. In 1994, 21,000 teens had abortions, accounting for 20 per cent of all abortions in that year.

REGINA, Jan 6 (LSN) – Randy Kirkham, the Saskatchewan Crown prosecutor who dealt with Robert Latimer’s original 1994 trial, is set to go to trial for his mishandling of the Latimer case on May 4. Kirkham was charged in June 1996 for allegedly instructing police to ask prospective jurors about their views on mercy killing, abortion and religion.  The questioning resulted in a mistrial, which led to Latimer’s recent re-trial.

SCOTLAND, Jan 15 (LSN) – Yesterday, doctors in Scotland reported the discovery that a test-tube baby has both male and female sex organs. The finding has led to increased concern that in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques increase the odds of such aberrations. DETROIT, Jan 14 (LSN) – Assisted-suicide activist Jack Kevorkian’s notorious lawyer, Geoffrey Fieger,  announced yesterday his intention to run for the Democratic nomination to become Governor of Michigan.  Fieger has outspokenly defended Kevorkian from all attacks and is himself one of the foremost proponents of assisted suicide in the US.  Fieger’s motive in running is to unseat Republican Governor John Engler, who opposes Kevorkian’s illegal pursuit of legalized assisted suicide.

FREDERICTON, Jan 14 (LSN) – Mayor Brad Woodside of Fredericton is facing a board of inquiry on charges of discrimination based on sexual orientation. The New Brunswick government announced today that it has ordered a board of inquiry under the province’s Human Rights Act to investigate Woodside’s refusal to proclaim Gay Pride Week.  A finding against Woodside may result in a hefty fine and make Woodside the third mayor persecuted under policies of enforced approval of homosexuality. Similar cases in recent years in the Ontario cities of Hamilton and London resulted in fines of $5,000 and $10,000 respectively.

BONN, Jan 14 (LSN) – German Chancellor Helmut Kohl informed the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung today that he expects Pope John Paul to instruct the German Catholic Church to withdraw from abortion counseling.  Kohl made his announcement after speaking with bishops who had discussed the issue with the pope last year. OTTAWA, Jan 14 (LSN) – Mr. Justice Mark MacGuigan, a 66-year-old judge of the Federal Court of Appeal and former cabinet minister under Pierre Trudeau, died Monday from liver cancer.  While identifying himself as a Catholic, MacGuigan supported abortion, saying he was “personally opposed to abortion,” but that his personal beliefs should not interfere with the execution of his public office.  In a 1994 book entitled “Abortion,Conscience and Democracy,” he explained how although his faith led him to oppose abortion, religion should not shape criminal law.

EDMONTON, Jan 13 (LSN) – The Alberta based Canada Family Action Coalition has asked for help to stop the opening of a bathhouse in Edmonton. The project received approval from Mayor Bill Smith. NEW YORK, Jan 13 (LSN) – Lawrence Lader, president of Abortion Rights Mobilization (ARM)—the group formed to promote the abortion pill RU-486 in the US—announced yesterday that 1,600 women have been given the drug under an FDA approved research project. INDIANA, Jan 8 (LSN) – Indiana Citizens for Life (ICL) embarked on an ambitious plan to use television commercials to foster the pro-life message. The results were very positive.  The polling firm of Baselice and Associates was asked by ICL to conduct pre- and post-polling to determine the effectiveness of the ads in changing public opinion.
