TEXAS, Mar 30 (LSN) – Last week the American Family Association (AFA) alerted pro-family advocates to America Online’s (AOL) support of foul-mouthed radio personality Howard Stern.  Efforts on the part of pro-family groups have led 84% of Stern’s sponsors to withdraw their support.  AOL, however, has retained its sponsorship.  In response, the AFA has encouraged pro-family supporters to contact AOL Chairman Steve Case,  and request that AOL stop contributing to Stern’s assault on our families by advertising on his show. OTTAWA, Mar 30 (LSN) – Last Wednesday, the House of Commons voted 169-66 to reject a motion brought forward by pro-euthanasia activist MP Svend Robinson (NDP, Burnaby-Douglas) to conduct a detailed study of physician-assisted suicide, and propose legislation to allow the practise.  Robinson’s motion was the latest in his long-standing campaign to enshrine the “right to die”  in Canadian law.  Campaign Life Coalition, the political arm of Canada’s pro-life movement, has added to its website a list of how the MPs voted on this important motion.  CLC encourages pro-  lifers to see how their own MPs voted, to support them […]

TORONTO, Mar 30 (LSN) – Ontario’s PC government announced this week that the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) has delisted certain medical services.  Beginning Wednesday, patients will have to pay for operations such as removing warts and facial disfigurements. Dermatologist Dr. Neil Shear reacted with indignation to the decision, saying, “What am I supposed to tell a guy who’s got a face like a monster: `I have to charge you?’” Observers note the decision means the Ontario government would deprive the poor and disfugured of potential relief, and that few Ontarians would support such callousness.  Pro-lifers note that the government […]

RED DEER, Alta., Mar 30 (LSN) – Alberta Premier Ralph Klein has set up a ministerial task force on homosexual “rights.”  The move comes in response to the pending Supreme Court of Canada decision in the case of Delwin Vriend, an instructor at a Christian College who was dismissed for refusing to conform to the college’s code of moral conduct, which is based on the Ten Commandments. WASHINGTON, Mar 27 (LSN)  Leading U.S. feminist Gloria Steinem argued recently in the New York Times that President Bill Clinton was not guilty of sexual harassment, even if he had fondled Kathleen Willey and propositioned Paula Jones, because he “took No for an answer.”  Steinem noted that even if the allegations against Clinton were true, he is nonetheless deserving of feminist support. The reason he merits such loyalty, she said, is his singular devotion to abortion “rights.”

PITTSBURGH, Mar 27 (LSN) – In a press release issued today, Chris Bell announced that his wife, Joan Andrews Bell, a US pro-life prisoner of conscience, was released from prison yesterday evening. Joan was in jail for counselling mothers entering a Pittsburgh abortuary.  Because she had refused to promise not to continue helping mothers and babies in crisis, she was given an extraordinarily stiff sentence, and no one expected she would be released so soon. OTTAWA, Mar 27 (LSN) – MP Paul Szabo (Lib., Mississauga South) has submitted a Private Members’  Bill to allow income splitting between spouses, to reduce tax-code discrimination against single-income families. Pro-family advocates are urging the grassroots to contact their MPs and ask them to support Mr. Szabo’s bill, which would significantly reduce the unfair burden the status quo places on families with stay-at-home moms.  In the previous parliament, one of Szabo’s motions to end unfair discrimination in child-care deductions passed with support from MPs in all parties, in spite of opposition from Liberal cabinet members.
