DISAPPOINTING ONTARIO THRONE SPEECH AGAIN

The Ontario government delivered its throne speech yesterday for the second session of the 36th Parliament. There was once again extremely little for pro-family, pro-life Ontarians.  The Harris government apparently believes it can take for granted next election the continued support of the large core of social conservatives that made the difference in its 1995 election win. Several Tory MPPs who, at a recent government policy retreat made an appeal for social conservative policies in the new term, appear to have been totally ignored.  Some of the non-economic slight positives in the government’s commitments are:  – on education, enhanced opportunities […]

GATES DONATES $1.7 MILLION TO POPULATION CONTROL

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 23, 1998 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Wednesday, Bill Gates, the head of the multi-billion dollar Microsoft Corp., gave $1.7 million (US) to the UN’s population control arm, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). No stranger to Malthusian population-control fanaticism, Gates specified that the gift was to support a 3-year plan to reduce the populations of developing nations. Last year The Village Voice reported that three of the richest men in the US (Ted Turner, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffet) strongly support the de-population agenda. Noting Ted Turner’s 1 billion dollar donation to the UN was likely to to […]

MORGENTALER ABORTUARY GUILTY OF NEGLIGENCE

HALIFAX, NS, Apr 23 (LSN) – According to the April edition of Reality, a publication of REAL Women,  the Nova Scotia Supreme Court found the Morgentaler abortuary in Halifax guilty of negligence in post-abortion care. The decision of the court was handed down in February, awarding a victim of Morgentaler’s “services” $724,547.66 in damages.  In 1993, the woman in question underwent an abortion at the Halifax facility, and was allowed to drive away only 30-45 minutes after the surgical “procedure.” According to the court, the emotional turmoil from the abortion caused the patient to faint and them swerve into oncoming […]

YOUNG BRITISH DOCTORS COERCED TO COMMIT ABORTIONS

LONDON, Apr 23 (LSN) – The British medical newspaper Hospital Doctor reported this week that junior doctors in Britain are being harassed into committing abortions by their supervisors. Dr.  Paul Flynn of the Royal Victoria Infirmary in north-eastern England told doctors at a conference sponsored by the British Medical Association (BMA) that after revealing his desire not to commit abortions, he was warned by an eminent professor that he would not go far in his field. The conference also heard that doctors training in obstetrics,  gynaecology and anaesthetics are especially vulnerable to such harassment.  Dr Therese von Goetz said that […]

ONE IN 16 AMERICAN DOCTORS ASSISTING IN SUICIDE?

BOSTSON, Apr 23 (LSN) – The New England Journal of Medicine reported today on a study on assisted suicide led by Dr Diane E. Meier of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr Meier claims that 11 per cent of doctors say there are circumstances in which they would prescribe drugs to help a patient to commit suicide, and that 36 per cent would do it if it were legal. The study also indicates that 6.4 percent of doctors “reported having acceded to at least one request for assistance with suicide or a lethal injection.”  The poll surveyed […]

U.S. FEMINISTS BLASTED FOR BLATANT HYPOCRISY

CHICAGO, Apr 23 (LSN) – Yesterday the Chicago Sun Times reminded readers of the National Organization of Women’s participation in a national civil-disobedience campaign 13 years ago to protest nuclear war. The paper also noted how ironic it is that today the leading US feminist group is celebrating a recent court decision, which they engineered, classifying pro-life civil disobedience and other demonstrations as “extortion” under the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations law.  It has also been remarked that in a protest designed to force passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, feminists blocked access to the Illinois Senate by chaining themselves […]

C.M.A. JOURNAL DISCUSSES MORRISON FALLOUT

OTTAWA, Apr 22 (LSN) – The Canadian Medical Association Journal contained an article yesterday detailing the reaction to the Morrison decision. In February, a Halifax Provincial Court judge dismissed murder charges against Nancy Morrison, ruling that there was insufficient evidence to show that her alleged euthanasia attempt actually caused the death of cancer patient Paul Mills.  Toronto ethicist and internist Peter Singer says in the article that the decision may lead some doctors to “assume that injecting potassium chloride and making people dead is OK….[but] it’s not OK, it’s currently illegal and whether or not it should be legal is […]

U.S. PRO-LIFERS UNABLE TO PAY UNJUST SETTLEMENT

CHICAGO, Apr 22 (LSN) – “A million dollars, a billion dollars, a trillion dollars, the national debt—they won’t get it,’’ said prominent U.S. pro-life leader Joseph Scheidler, reacting to a recent court ruling awarding $258,000 (US) in damages to two abortuaries, in the NOW v. Scheidler case. “You can’t get blood from a turnip—and we’re turnips,” he said.  The pro-aborts’ case, based on the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) law,  has opened the door to similar suits by the nearly 1,000 abortion mills across the US

After introducing Johnson as a “messenger of peace” today at a news conference, Annan attended a reception hosted by Jack Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Association of America, to recruit more celebrities.  This latest effort at self-promotion comes as the United Nations claims to be teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, due to the […]
